Ok so I just finished Breaking Dawn and had never thought of the wolves as werewolves myself but it totally makes sense!
What did you think about them being declared Shape-Shifters rather than Werewolves?

Did they really have a choice? I mean I get the the chief chose a wolf in the beginning but could they actually phase into something else???
It's passed genetically too, which explains why they aren't werewolves...

I was actually kinda confused by that.. I guess they called them shape shifters because they could transform into wolves. Im not sure..  |

I thought it was a good twist, but unusual that they all chose wolf forms. They didn't actually choose. The Quileutes used to be spirit warriors but one warrior was angry at the Chief for banishing him from the tribe because of unacceptable behavior. So one day while the Chief was in spirit form, the angry warrior killed and hid his body so the Chief could not get back to it. He wandered without a body for days until he stumbled upon a wolf. He asked the wolf if he may share it's body and the wolf agreed. Then when the Chief returned to the tribe to fight off the evil warrior who had taken over, his loyalties and determination caused him to actually merge with the wolf. Thus the birth of the very first Quileute werewolf/shape-shifter. Aro needs to read up on his Quileute legends.  Although I think werewolf is an appropriate name. Technically we have always defined werewolves as half man, half wolf creatures and based on the legend it seems that this is exactly what they are. |
